Interested in Drum Making
Judy Jonson Faulkner (Grounding Journeys) and Jill McMullen (Hayfork & Sickle) are co-hosting this class with guest instructor Wayne Manthey.
Wayne is a craftsman of drums made of rawhide and wood, and a teacher of making handmade drums based in Minneapolis:
“The healing properties of a drum are found in the elements that make it: wood and animal hide. Making personal frame drums is a journey that is individually and spiritually meaningful. Teaching drum-making classes involves storytelling and introspection. The drum symbolizes the heartbeat of life, the heartbeat of the community. It is not simply an art form, but a tool for cleansing, centering and focusing one’s intentions for health and happiness.”
The workshop begins with an opening ceremony at 10:00 AM, and you may arrive as early as 9:30 AM for refreshments and introductions. A catered box lunch from Baker’s Table will be provided; take time to eat during a natural break in your drum-making process.
Plan on 4-5 hours to make the drum. As the drums begin to dry, we’ll lead a ceremony to welcome them into the circle of our lives and to dedicate them as individuals for a purpose of your choosing.
Investment: $235 for small drum (13″), $260 for large drum (16″)
All materials plus lunch, non-alcoholic drinks ands snack are included; you may also walk the trails on the farm. Bring your journal to capture the experience. Bring any musical instruments you would like for the closing ceremony!
Set aside a few hours to slow down, tap into your creativity, and make a personal drum that will connect with your heart and with a universal human experience.
